Loewe Triangle Bag: A Love Triangle

Other Brands

The fact that Spanish label Loewe is now being sold at cult-favorite and kooky-collaboration mecca Opening Ceremony says a lot. The lush leather brand has come a long way in the last few years. Now that Stuart Vevers has moved on to Coach and young Brit Jonathan Anderson is in, with his first collection for the house now hitting stores, it represents an even more contemporary era for them.

I am all about this shape. After becoming quite comfortable with soft hobos and slouchier styles, it’s great to see Loewe doing a seriously structured bag. Especially one that I happen to love. The Triangle is hard and striking, without being tough or unwelcoming. On the contrary. Thanks to this sunny, searing shade of yellow, it strikes the right balance of strong lines and cheerful color. Such a bag also makes me eager to see what Anderson has up his sleeve next. Loewe triangle bag at Opening Ceremony for $1,690.

Pair with: Play up this modern moment with Maison Martin Margiela‘s belted wool and silk-blend dress. With an asymmetrical element, it’s got both class and edge to spare.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2015 Collection: Utilitarian Euphoria

Other Brands

Ralph Lauren Spring 2015 Collection

Think of all the things that come to mind when you reflect on Ralph Lauren: Buttery stretch suede pants, cinch-waist safari jackets, crisp tufts of ruffles, draped mock-turtlenecks, breezy coveralls, bejeweled statement necklaces and drop earrings, lean tunic gowns, layered tulle skirts, to name just a few. The original king of easy, glamorous American style, and for Spring ’15, he is back to remind us that no one else comes close to his particular genre of dressing. In the process, he has successfully whipped up the perfect summer wardrobe, with something for every possible occasion, from the casual to the cocktail, jet-set comfort to strictly business moments to off-day chic to black-tie drama.

But the real scenario is clear: this season, the glitzy safari princess takes a semi-tomboyish holiday, and the message was evident upon the first look: a draped and sashed satin top in royal violet paired with semi-loose, low-slung, tapered cargo pants. Could it be? Does this mark the triumphant return of the dressed-up cargo pant?! If anyone can make the often-abused style look fresh and appealing, it’s Ralph Lauren. Soft and easy does it! Ralph’s juxtaposing palette serves the looks well. Nothing energizes quintessential neutral shades of olive, khaki, and army tan like punchy pops of searing hue – a sunny lemon-citrine trench coat draped over a knit and suede ensemble, easy silk shantung pants in bright fuchsia with an olive silk shirt, and a sheer neon-orange safari jacket is paired with an equally bright exotic tote.

There is plenty of tulle, organza, and utterly spectacular beadwork to counter the more functional fabrics, like cotton canvas, and there is also a refreshing portion of all-white elegance (check out the column dresses) for those who prefer to keep their spring wardrobe perfectly pristine. But ultimately, this is a collection delightfully founded upon the utilitarian, like jumpsuits in silk charmeuse, and that sense of practicality has been glammed up with plenty of dramatic jewels. This ongoing contrast is summed up in one major look: a long-sleeve tulle gown, glistening with crystals, and worn with a super-oversized, distressed metallic leather shoulder bag. This is red-carpet glamour with a hearty helping of grit.

Trend Alert: Turquoise Jewelry

Other Brands

Trend Alert

The recent resurgence of an obsession with Old Pawn turquoise has caused a wild scramble to pick up cuffs, necklaces and earrings in shiny sterling silver. Rather than grabbing some cheap knockoffs that’ll wear and tear in a few months, consider investing in a true piece of art from one of these native artisans.

Traditional techniques include stamping directly into the metal by hand; other pieces are made by carving into tufa (a volcanic rock found in the deserts of the Navajo Reservation as well as other parts of the world) then pouring molten silver into the mold. The molds can typically only be used once, making the pieces one-of-a-kind. Many of these traditions are continued as a family trade throughout Arizona, New Mexico and other parts of North America, staying true to ancestry but also adding a unique, modern point of view to the craft.

Trend Alert

Aaron Anderson, a Navajo silversmith, uses the tufa method in his pieces. He likes to use angular lines and a bold graphic style that speaks to tradition through today’s lens. He accents the pieces with exquisite high-grade turquoise.

Trend Alert

Jay McCormick is a bit of a wild card in this crew. Though he has Native American blood and lives in Arizona, he has taken the art of smithing in a new direction. His stamping patterns follow an organic line and his style follows his whims, from heart-shaped pendants stamped in floral motifs, to huge bracelets of concho-esque silver pieces on leather, immaculately stamped in geometric forms.

Trend Alert

This stunning bracelet was made by Calvin Martinez, a Navajo Indian with an amazing relationship with the materials he works with. This bracelet is actually hollow on the top box, allowing for a larger statement without the weight. At Perry Null Trading Company for $650.

Also at Perry Null Trading is a group of work by fellow Navajo Delbert Gordon; this bracelet shows his mastery of traditional settings, techniques and styles. From setting and stamping to wirework and hand forming, this bracelet truly showcases the beauty of authentic, native jewelry. At Perry Null Trading Company for $1,015.

Julia Hagen is currently a student at the Gemological Institute of America. Her love for jewelry started with a red bead bracelet she received as a birthday gift from her grandfather around the age of five. Other healthy addictions include shoes, Crossfit, photography and researching jewelry arts.

Marion Cotillard Continues to Be a Lady Dior Ambassador for Cruise 2016

Other Brands

Although Dior is currently dealing with some unexpected changes, as Raf Simons steps down as the creative director of the French fashion house, one of the brand’s most iconic faces has never stopped playing her role as a Lady Dior Ambassador: Marion Cotillard. The French Academy-Award-winning actress, whose role as Lady Macbeth is going to come out in France on November 18, has been an ambassador and Dior house muse since 2008, being thus part of the French house’s list of charming muses, including Charlize Theron, Mila Kunis and Jennifer Lawrence. Besides Lady Macbeth, Cotillard is mainly famous for having played Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose (2007),Inception (2010) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

Marion Cotillard for Lady Dior Cruise 2016 Campaign

Skillfully captured by photographer duo Mert & Marcus (renowned for their collaborations with glamorous magazines such as Vogue Paris and Vanity Fair and Fashion Houses, such as Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton), Marion Cotillard returns as the face of Lady Dior for the brand’s cruise 2016 campaign with a more sensual and almost mystical look. In the two pictures that the brand has recently released, Cotillard is captured in an intimate setting, lying on a luxurious bed covered with dusky blue satin sheets. Donning a form-fitting black dress adorned with a geometric décolleté from thebrand’s cruise 2016 collection (one of the last to be designed by former creative director Raf Simons), the 40-year-old French actress shows off both the scarlet red Lady Dior Carmine handbag and the new-era bronze Metallic Cannage, the tonalities of which stand out against the cold backdrop.

Created in 1994, Lady Dior’s quilted patterns have been inspired by the Napoleon II chairs and became internationally renowned in 1995, after Princess Diana began carrying her Lady Dior almost everywhere she made an appearance.

Marion Cotillard, who absolutely smolders in this role, matches the sensually mysterious look with smokey eye makeup and a retro-inspired hairdo, which turn her into a Roaring Twenties diva. The perfectly balanced shots reveal Cotillard’s ability to make everything look so delicate and sophisticated that we almost forget this is an advertisement campaign and not an intimate, personal shot.

Although Cotillard’s collaboration with Dior may be regarded as more traditional, the French label has never been afraid of experimenting with other kinds of talents and personalities. Breaking off with its traditions, Dior has recently collaborated with Rihanna, giving the Barbadian singer the role as the new “Secret Garden IV” collection’s muse.

Beautiful as always, Marine Cotillard’s long-life collaboration with Dior is always a pleasure to watch. You can also discover the making-of video of the campaign on DiorTV.

You know when the Chanel Classic Flap Bag is too expensive and you’re looking for an alternative but discovered that the Chanel Easy Caviar Flap Bag is sold-out, or no longer in production.

That sucks!

But we have some great news. Those that are still on shopping-spree in Europe, the Chanel Easy Caviar Flap Bag was spotted in Paris last week. Here’s a message from Kimbetly

‘Yes, its still available in Europe. I just bought the small black Chanel easy flap bag in Paris during the fashion week but the Chanel stores were cleaned out. I found it at the Chanel store in Galleries Lafayette. The price was 2460 euros (VAT Tax refund 410 euros)! I wanted silver hardware but they didn’t have it but the bag is beautiful!’.

What’s so special about this bag?

Well from the design perspective, the Easy Caviar bag looks the closest to the iconic Classic Flap Bag without the huge price tag.

So what do you think?
